Vale - Len Dagleish (Young Pups/Dogs)

It is with sadness that we advise of the passing of Len Dalgleish, past member and Old Boy of the North Burleigh SLSC.

Len passed on Sunday 8th August 2010, aged 60 years. He had been battling Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, having been diagnosed in September 2009. He died peacefully at home in Scotland with his brother and past member, Ron Dalgleish by his side.

His funeral was held on Saturday 14th August in a small village called Bridge of Allen near Stirling in Scotland.

Having lived in Scotland for some years, Len was the University of Stirling's Professor of Decision Making, and he was honoured in the week prior to his death when he received the American Humane Association's
highest honour for his work on child protection. The Vincent De Francis award, which has been awarded just 18 times in its 34 year history, recognises those with the vision and commitment to reach across disciplines to improve child welfare systems on a national level. This link will give you more information: News Releases - University of Stirling

During the 60th Anniversary Celebrations last year, Len contacted me having heard of our celebratory weekend. He was very proud of his time at the Club and shared this story with me:

"Hi Kylie

My brother Ron Dalgleish forwarded the information on the weekend to me.
I can't make it for 2 reasons - 1. I live in Scotland and 2. I am being treated for acute leukemia.
I have also sent the information onto my other brother James Dalgleish. James (or Jim) was a member in the late 1950's when he and a few of his mates would travel down from Toowoomba to stay in the old clubhouse. His nickname was Dogs (from Dogs leash). He paddled the double skis.
Ron was a member from the early 1960's and was in the boat crew. His nickname was Pups.
I did my bronze in 1965 but I remember the old clubhouse since my family used to rent a house on the North Burleigh Hill. I held a variety of positions in the late 1960's (membership was low), Club house director, Boat captain. I rowed in the Junior boats and in the senior boats. I had a bit of a break in the 1970's but I had done enough patrols to become an active reserve member. I renewed my interest in the club in about 1982/1983 when I was the Vice Captain of the club. My nickname was Young Pups, Little Dogs (early) and then just Dogs.
I have a few old annual reports from the 1960's including the 25th anniversary one. I am sure that you have a full set of annual reports but if you need them I will make mine available to you.
all the best with the weekend - and have a good time
Len"

Our condolences have been sent to his family and extend to all his friends back home in Australia.

Kylie Parmley

HELPFUL HINTS FROM OUR FRIENDS AT T H E REAL ESTATE

When someone is going to sell their home or property should they list it exclusively with one agent or agency?

Definitely yes, provided that agent is competent, honest and has a good track record. Being exclusively listed with one agent means that he or she will put a lot more time and energy into marketing your property. That's because no agency can afford to spend advertising dollars that don't get results so they just aren’t going to advertise non exclusive properties, it’s that simple. Sure they'll put a card in their window and list them in the non featured sections of the internet. But as for a properly prepared media campaign that will get you the price you want fast an exclusive listing is definitely the way to go.

Can any agent from any agency still introduce their buyers to your property?

Yes in fact if your Agent has your best interest in mind he can actually promote your property to other agencies. Best of all though is you are dealing exclusively with one professional who will do his or her utmost to ensure you get the best possible price for your home in the current market.

Are sales contracts with a subject to finance clause or condition, common?

Yes they are very common. What it means is the vendor is simply allowing the purchaser a grace period in which the purchaser's Bank or Lender can assess the property. Generally a professional valuer will visit the property and write a report back to the bank. The bank then assesses the valuation and decides if it will lend the amount requested by the purchaser. All being well the bank or lender gives the purchaser the OK to go ahead and the sales contract becomes "unconditional". Usually this period is between 7 -21 days from the date of signing. Note: this is only in general and anyone buying or selling should refer to their legal representative for advice on their particular documents.

What are things that can be done to better prepare a home for sale?

Presentation goes a long way to making someone want to make your property their own. Make sure the gardens and lawns are tidy, sports equipment and toys neatly stored, bins out of site, simple things that are easy to overlook when you see them every day. Inside get rid of clutter especially from the kitchen, make sure your home presents at its best. Remember you only get one chance to make a first impression. If your agent mentions something needs to be removed or tidied don't shoot him. He is trying to show your house in its best light and he can see it through the eyes of a potential buyer.

So, if someone is thinking of selling their home or just want to get an idea of how much it would fetch in today's market what should they do?

THE Real Estate - helping keep our beaches safe in 2010!

You may have seen our sponsors THE Real Estate on the beach arena as well as supporting the North Burleigh Workforce at the Senior Carnival a couple of weeks ago. They are a local agency and have had a surge of enquiries since the new year for family type homes on the southern part of the Gold Coast.

Thank you to North Burleigh SLSC from Kerry McNeil's Family

To the North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club - from the Family of past Life Member Kerry McNeill

"Dear Members who attended my brother's - Kerry McNeill's - funeral recently, thank you all for the flowers you sent and especially the flags that were draped over his coffin. He would have been so proud of you all to give him his send off and also Greg (Lawson) for the great eulogy you gave.

My family have only ever known the quiet Kerry, very reserved and serious around us, also to John Conway, who always picked Kerry up at Robina to take him down to the Club. Over the years, he always loved to catch up with you all.

Unfortunately, over the last few years because of his health he just couldn't make it. Hope you will always remember him he will be sadly missed.

Thank you all.

Kindest Regards from Margaret Wool, his sister"
